SUMMARY:Reading and Audition for community play - everyone welcome
DESCRIPTION:Live Bait Theatre is presenting a community production of a new play\, “The Intercolonial: Ties That Bind”. The play is written by Susan Amos and will be directed by Dale Fawthrop. It will be presented in November\, and was written to commemorate 150 years since the Intercolonial Railway came to Sackville in 1869. \nThere will be a workshop reading of the play (which will double as an audition) on August 22 at 7 pm at the Marshlands Inn. Readers are needed for this event\, and it will give people a chance to hear the play and to read for the playwright and director. No experience is necessary\, and people of all ages are encouraged to participate. \n“It’s not mandatory for people to attend this reading if they want to audition for the play\,” said Live Bait President Cynthia Spurles. “But it will be a great help to the playwright as she finishes the final draft of the play\, and will give everyone a chance to get a first look at the show. Anyone who is not able to attend but would like to audition for the play should contact Live Bait Theatre”. Everyone selected for the show will receive a small honorarium. \nPeople wanting to read/audition should contact Live Bait beforehand if possible at 536-2248 or info@livebaittheatre. com. The same contact information can be used to arrange another time for an audition. The Intercolonial Railway celebration is made possible by a grant from the Department of Canadian Heritage.

SUMMARY:Salon Reading "Reader Be Thou Also Ready"
DESCRIPTION:As part of their 30th anniversary season celebrations\, Live Bait Theatre is pleased to present another Salon Reading of a play that received its world premier with them. A staged reading of “Reader Be Thou Also Ready” by Charlie Rhindress will be presented on Tuesday\, January 29 at 7:30 pm at the Marshlands Inn. Light refreshments will be served\, and admission is by donation. \n“Reader Be Thou Also Ready” explores circumstances surrounding the unsolved murder of William Fawcett in Sackville in 1832. The New Brunswick Royal Gazette in July of that year stated\, “A most atrocious Murder has been committed in this hitherto peaceful part of the country. On Tuesday evening last\, Mr. William Fawcett . . . was sitting by a candle reading his Bible\, when some monster in human shape fired a gun through the window at him and killed him . . . Mr. Fawcett was a man of most amiable character\, mild\, inoffensive and retiring in his manners . . . and has died universally regretted by all who knew him.” The title of the play refers to Fawcett’s gravestone which relays the story of his death and admonishes the person looking at the tombstone with the message\, “Reader Be Thou Also Ready”\, should death come to them unexpectedly. \nFor more information about the reading\, or Live Bait’s 2019 activities\, phone 536-2248 or visit www.livebaittheatre.com

SUMMARY:Live Bait presents a Salon Reading of "We Happy Few"
DESCRIPTION:Live Bait Theatre in pleased to present a Salon Reading of the play “We Happy Few” by Mark Blagrave. The play\, which had its world premiere at Live Bait Theatre in 2003\, received critical and audience acclaim.  In “We Happy Few”\, two Canadian soldiers in a convalescent hospital participate in a production of Shakespeare’s Henry V on the condition they can mount a counter-play to show the jingoistic actor-manager what it was really like in the Battle of the Somme. The name Mark Blagrave is a familiar  one to Sackville residents\, Mark having been a theatre director\, university professor and administrator in New Brunswick and Ontario as well as being a playwright\, novelist and writer of short fiction.\n\nThis reading marks the second in a series of readings of plays first produced by Live Bait\, to celebrate the 30th year of the company which was founded in 1988. This presentation features original cast member\, and former Live Bait Artistic Director Charlie Rhindress as director.  The play is also being presented as a commemoration of 100 years since the end of WWI. \n\n“We Happy Few” will be read at the Marshlands Inn on Monday\, November 12 at 7:30 pm. Admission is by donation. For more information\, or to reserve a seat\, contact Live Bait Theatre at 536-2248 or info@livebaittheatre.com

SUMMARY:Salon Reading of "Bump" - commemorating 60 years since the Springhill Mine Disaster
DESCRIPTION:Salon Reading of the Play “Bump” Marks 60th Anniversary of Springhill Mine Disaster – October 23rd \nOn Thursday\, October 23\, 1958 at 8:06pm\, a series of shock waves thundered through the Number 2 Colliery of the Springhill Coal Mine\, creating an intense\, localized earthquake that was felt 23 kilometres away. One hundred seventy-four miners were trapped or crushed as floors smashed into ceilings and walls came crashing down. It was the biggest bump in North American mining history. A bump occurs when coal has been dug out of a layer of rock or earth and the surrounding bedrock is not able to withstand the resulting stresses\, causing it to collapse. \nOn October 23\, the 60th anniversary of the bump\, Live Bait Theatre invites you to a Salon Reading of Richard Merrill’s play BUMP. It chronicles eight days in the lives of three trapped Springhill miners\, and the life of one of their wives as she waits on the surface for news of her husband. Through these four characters\, BUMP mines the anatomy of hope and its kin\, courage\, love\, desperation and despair. “The play itself is such a human story\,” says Live Bait President Cynthia Spurles. “It’s about relatively average people who have to do extraordinary things because of the circumstances they’re put in. I think in that way everybody can relate to it because we’re all in situations in our lives where there’s the possibility something unexpected might happen to us and we always wonder how we’ll deal with it.” \nThe Salon Reading of “Bump” will take place at the Marshlands Inn on Tuesday\, October 23 at 7:30 pm. Admission is by donation. For more information contact Live Bait Theatre at 536-2248 or www.livebaittheatre.com
