SUMMARY:Live Bait presents the holiday drag cabaret “Jingle Bell of the Ball”
DESCRIPTION:Live Bait Theatre is pleased to present “Jingle Bell of the Ball” for one night only on Saturday\, November 25 at 7:30 pm at the Sackville Legion. \nFor centuries\, we’ve only known her as Santa’s humble wife. But now it’s time for Mrs. Claus to tell her story! \nRuby Claus has always been the true backbone of the North Pole\, but she’s tired of being the unsung hero of the holidays. This year\, she’s letting Santa and the elves fend for themselves as she steps into the spotlight in a glamorous night of music and comedy starring the true Queen of Christmas: Mrs. Claus! \nRecommended for audiences of 13-years-old and up. \n_________________________________________________________ \nCreated by and starring CJ Norris. CJ’s previous work won him the Fan Favourite Award at the 2021 Fundy Fringe\, for his solo drag musical Flyin’ Solo! \, which made a stop in Sackville last year.CJ is a Moncton-based musical theatre artist who’s appeared on local stages as LeFou in Beauty and the Beast\, Jinx in Forever Plaid\, and the ensembles of Mary Poppins and The Wizard of Oz\, just to name a few. This holiday season\, he brings you another one-of-a-kind interactive ‘dragsical’! \nTickets: Are available here online or by calling (506) 536-2248.

SUMMARY:Fruit Machine - by Solo Chicken Productions - in Sackville
DESCRIPTION:Fruit Machine is an original physical theatre performance created and directed by Alex Rioux in partnership with Solo Chicken Productions.\nThe 1960s saw the Royal Canadian Mounted Police double down on their already aggressive campaign to eliminate homosexuals from the civil service. Driven by cold war induced paranoia of security risks the RCMP pointed their attention at the queer communities for their perceived “character weaknesses”. Taking historical text\, real-life accounts\, poetry\, and movement Fruit Machine tells the story of hundreds through the bodies of four.\n\nFruit Machine\, the debut creation from director Alex Rioux in collaboration with Solo Chicken Production\, is both a haunting look at the harm paranoia-driven policy can do to vulnerable communities\, and a memorial to the brave and powerful queer individuals who resisted an insidious\, dehumanizing security campaign.\n\nFor ticket information visit www.livebaittheatre.com/tickets\n\nThere is also a FREE physical theatre workshop for any interested folks who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ in Sackville 5:00PM-6:00PM on August 3. TO LEARN MORE OR TO BOOK A SPACE IN THE WORKSHOP visit www.solochickenproductions.com/fruit-machine

SUMMARY:Mali Obomsawin in concert (jazz)
DESCRIPTION:Tickets are available by clicking here\, by calling (506) 940-2248\, or visiting 62 Main St (in the back building) Tuesday to Friday 12 noon to 4 pm\n\nMALI OBOMSAWIN (they/she) is an award winning bassist\, songwriter and composer from Abenaki First Nation at Odanak. With an expansive background in American roots\, rock\, and jazz\, Obomsawin carries several music traditions. Mali’s debut album Sweet Tooth has received international acclaim since its release (Out of Your Head Records 2022)\, including rave reviews and “best of 2022” placement in The Guardian\, JazzTimes\, and NPR. A Smithsonian Folkways Recordings artist\, they spent the years 2014-2021 touring internationally with beloved folk-rock band Lula Wiles. An in-demand bassist in the folk and jazz circuits\, Mali appears often as an accompanist with contemporaries like Jake Blount and Lizzie No\, and has performed at premier festivals like Newport and Philly Folk Fest. She can also be found in galleries and creative music spaces with the likes of Peter Apfelbaum\, Taylor Ho Bynum\, and Bill Cole’s Untempered Ensemble. In addition to their artistic work\, Obomsawin is a community organizer dedicated to land justice and tribal sovereignty.\nMali received the 2022 International Folk Music Association’s “Rising Tide Award\,” which honors young artists who embody the values and ideals of the folk community through their creative work\, community role\, and public voice. They also received the New England Foundation of the Arts’ “New Work New England” award in 2022. Mali is a member of The Julia Keefe Indigenous Big Band and Indigenous Performance Productions’ Welcome To Indian Country. As a composer-arranger\, they scored the upcoming film “We Are The Warriors\,” collaborated with Red Sky Performance and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra\, and Palaver Strings. Beyond the stage Mali is a community organizer and advocate for Indigenous rights\, environmental justice and landback. She works as a writer and educator with the Wabanaki-led Sunlight Media Collective to document and promote stories at the intersection of environmental justice and Tribal sovereignty. Her journalism has been published recently in Smithsonian\, National Performance Network\, and the Boston Globe. In 2020\, Mali co-founded Bomazeen Land Trust\, the first ever Wabanaki land trust\, where she currently serves as executive director.\n\nAbout Sweet Tooth:\n\nA suite for Indigenous resistance\, the new album from Wabanaki bassist\, composer\, and songwriter Mali Obomsawin flies in the face of Western tropes that insist Indigenous cultures are monolithic\, trapped in time. Instead\, Obomsawin highlights centuries of clever adaptation and resistance that have fueled the art and culture of Wabanaki people.

SUMMARY:Whiskey Jack presents Stories and Songs of Stompin' Tom - May 5 at the Sackville Legion
DESCRIPTION:Stompin’ Tom became a fan of Whiskey Jack during their tenure as regulars on the CBC’s Tommy Hunter Show. Each week\, Tom would join millions of his fellow Canadians and watch them sing\, play and laugh on their own segment\, “The Old Back Porch”. What followed was a 25 year friendship and musical collaboration with Tom that produced many recordings\, cross country tours and all night kitchen parties in his home. They even co-wrote some songs together.\n\n \n\nSays Fremlin\, “all of our shows feature a mix of Tom’s greatest hits combined with many outrageous\, yet true\, backstage stories of our time with Tom. This is a show that will entertain fans of all musical genres. We guarantee everyone will leave the theatre with a smile on their face and a spring to their step.”\n\n \n\nFremlin is also the author of the best selling book\, “My Good Times with Stompin’ Tom” They invite you to join them and sing and dance to these classic songs….in a Legion in the Maritimes no less! It couldn’t be more perfect.\n\n \n\nThis show is licensed by Tom’s family and his record label\, Anthem Entertainment.\n\n \n\nTickets are available by calling Live Bait Theatre at (506) 536-2248\, visiting 14 York St Tuesday and Thursday from 3 pm to 6 pm or Wednesday from 9 am to 1 pm\, or by clicking here.

SUMMARY:An evening with Blues Artists Theresa Malenfant & Scott Medford
DESCRIPTION:Theresa Malenfant and Scott Medford are becoming one of the most popular blues duo acts in the Atlantic Provinces. They have been performing together in a band for years\, but decided to work as a duo only three years ago. In that short time they managed to win second place (out of 360 other acts) in an International Competition held in Memphis Tennessee. \nTheresa and Scott have an intuitive way of working with each other\, and the mutual respect and admiration for the other’s abilities is evident from their stage performance. \nTheresa Malenfant has earned the nickname “Queen Bee of the Blues”. When you hear the first note you’ll know why. And she personally selected Scott Medford to be her guitarist. That speaks volumes about his level of playing. \nAn incredible evening of music you’ll not soon forget! \nTickets $15 Available at the Legion & CFTA Studios \nDoors open at 7PM | Showtime 8PM \nFor Info.  call 506-364-9000 \n

SUMMARY:Notable Acts Theatre Company presents two award winning one-act plays
DESCRIPTION:To reserve a spot visit www.festivalbythemarsh.ca\n\nTwo powerful one-acts that were presented to acclaim at the recent NotaBle Acts Theatre Festival.\nLife Goes On by Muriel Falkenstein – directed by Julianne Richard and MAD About Van Horne by Ron Kelly Spurles – directed by Alex McAllister.\n\nLife Goes On – March to June\, 2020. Six students are given an assignment\, somehow as mundane as it is unthinkable: make a video time capsule\, for the strangest year of your life\, the one where time is now standing still. Interestingly\, life does find a way to happen even if it does so in a tangle. The digital age creates webs across the stage\, as love\, interpersonal dramas\, social conquest\, and all the timeless problems of teenagers find new outlets in Zoom chats and journals rife with topical references\, as their minds buzz with burning cities\, melting ice caps and an increasingly uncertain future. Featuring performances by Nicole Zacharuk\, Alex Dawson\, Reinaldo Cascante\, and Megan Murphy.\nMAD About Van Horne – It is 100 years ago\, and a St. Andrews barn is playing host to a half-baked rehearsal. Grace Mowat and her Music And Drama society are to put on a play about the town hero\, railroad magnate and owner of Minister’s Island William Cornelius Van Horne\, in the hopes that his widow\, (and other folks of fine society\,) might take notice. In this ode to both the dignity and misadventures of amateur theatre\, the question is thick in the evening air- does it matter? Will anything have changed after the curtains close? Featuring performances by Dani Brun\, Brenna Gauthier\, Scott Harris\, and Josef Addleman.\nHeld at the Sackville Legion 15 Lorne St
