SUMMARY:Decolonisation: Who Owns Heritage?
DESCRIPTION:A public lecture by Dr. Evelyne Godfrey\, Department of Classics\, Mount Allison University. \nHeritage place-making and identity context is essential for us to understand the\nbackground of decolonisation and anti-racism\, but there is a danger of informed\ndiscussion being shut down on campuses in many places. In this talk\, we’ll look at two\nas yet unresolved case-studies of repatriation of cultural heritage acquired under\ncolonial circumstances by institutions in Britain: an important Mi’gmaw\narchaeological assemblage that has been held at Oxford University’s Pitt Rivers\nMuseum for the past eighty years\, and the Parthenon sculptures held in the British\nMuseum. \nStandard Covid protocols in place.
