SUMMARY:Take Back the Night March
DESCRIPTION:The Mount Allison University Women’s and Gender Studies Society is excited to be hosting the annual Take Back the Night rally here in Sackville! Take Back the Night is an event that acknowledges and highlights the safety issues and fears that women\, femme\, non-binary\, and trans* people encounter when walking alone in the dark. On October 16th\, we will “take back the streets” and claim the right to walk at night without fear of sexual assault! This is a time to make our voices and experiences of sexual assault and harassment heard and to come together to support survivors. This rally is open to everyone in the Sackville community and we welcome folks of all genders\, races\, ages\, and abilities. \nAs is tradition\, we encourage everyone to bring flashlights or candles with them. As well as to dress warmly. We will meet in front of the student center for opening remarks\, and then proceed to march downtown and around Mount A’s campus along with a designated route. The route is wheelchair accessible\, but if you have any accessibility concerns\, please don’t hesitate to contact us! \n** The TBTN rally is a family-friendly event and we will NOT tolerate any form of violence\, aggression\, or discriminatory acts\, which includes but is not limited to: racism\, sexism\, homophobia\, transphobia\, queerphobia\, fatphobia\, ableist comments\, sexual harassment\, and bullying. Please make sure to care for yourself and others. ** \nPlease feel free to send a message to: wgstsociety@mta.ca if you have any questions or concerns about the event.

SUMMARY:Walk of Privilege
DESCRIPTION:MOSAIC and Free the Children will be hosting a walk of privilege for the Mount Allison and Sackville community on Monday\, January 29\, and it will be taking place in Tweedie Hall on the first floor of the Wallace McCain Student Center. \nThe walk is designed to expose the various difficulties individuals may face on a daily basis in their lives. We highly recommend participating in the event; it will be an educational\, thought-provoking and eye-opening experience to the various societal privileges that exist today. \nThere will be two event times on Monday the 29\, our first walk will take place at 12:30pm\, while the second one will take place that afternoon at 4:30pm. Food will be available free of charge\, so feel free to stick around afterward and chat over a slice of pizza and garlic fingers. \nWe look forward to walking with you on the 29! \nFor more information on the nature of the event\, check out the following youtube video: \nhttps://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DyZ670ooc6Qc&h=ATP-rEexyNtwDPyRbjG4_nCZrECOto4cSmvPnPZGuDXdSzTOtHs_eapf6GJ2dv2jiD1GF2izPmeMhOaAjeXYOVIdsEPT0rQmZNQEqjmyTZx91Kc1JwqwC4rMeexgNCSOFKqWKvqiZTj55sG2CoHiCQ

SUMMARY:8th Annual SMILE Walk/Run
DESCRIPTION:The SMILE Walk/Run is in it’s 8th year and we hope that many runners (and non-runners!) from the community will once again offer their support. There will be timed 5K and 10K runs as well as a 1K fun run! Registration is at 9:00 AM on the day of the run on the main floor of the Wallace McCain Student Centre (62 York Street) on the Mount Allison Campus. Registration costs $10 with all proceeds going to the SMILE program.\nThe SMILE program is run by Mount Allison students and the Cumberland SMILE & SHINE Program organization in Amherst. It pairs students from Mount Allison with children and youth in surrounding communities who have special needs. Volunteers and “buddies” meet every Saturday morning during the academic year at the Cumberland YMCA where they play games\, do crafts\, socialize\, cook\, and swim. The SMILE Walk/Run is the program’s biggest fundraiser and helps us transport volunteers\, purchase cooking and craft supplies\, and overall provide a one-on-one program to children and youth who are often unable to participate fully in other recreation programs. This event would not be possible without the continuous support of The Running Room Moncton and our many SMILE volunteers.
