SUMMARY:MAKER MAKER: Needle Felting with Alana Morouney
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our first MAKER MAKER of 2024 and discover the magic of needle felting with artist Alana Morouney. At this workshop\, participants will transform tufts of soft wool roving into a miniature object of their own design. Alana will share tips\, tricks\, and ideas to get you started with this perfect cozy winter craft. \nAlana Morouney (they/she) is a Sackville/Mi’kma’ki-based textile artist and sculptor. Alana takes an experimental approach to needle felting\, often combining the soft medium with paper\, metal\, and leather. Their interactive sculptures\, including kaleidoscopes and kites are both tender and playful. Through various media\, Alana’s work explores themes of community\, communication\, parenthood\, and dreams. Alana was the New Brunswick recipient of the BMO 1st award in 2021. In 2023\, they initiated the creative speaker series Six Minute Eggs\, presented at Struts Gallery. \nMAKER MAKER is a monthly program of seriously small after-hours art workshops. Led by diverse Maker Mentors\, each workshop introduces a pocket-sized art project that can be made in two hours or less. Designed for accomplished and aspiring makers alike\, MAKER MAKER is for anyone interested in making small things by hand with friends and fellow makers. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a vernissage to celebrate the exhibition of a feather in memory of Gay Hansen\, featuring works by Thaddeus Holownia and Karen Stentaford. \nAbout the Exhibition\nThis exhibition considers how close relationships with the natural world strengthen our bonds with each other. It is organized in memory of Gay Hansen (1954-2021)\, a gifted teacher\, mentor\, and ornithologist who taught at Mount Allison for thirty-nine years. of a feather takes its title from a portfolio of photographs Thaddeus Holownia created after the death of Hansen\, his life partner. These tender portraits of bird study skins—part of a collection she assembled—join a series of projects highlighting the couple’s creative partnership.
