SUMMARY:MAKER MAKER: Button Worlds with John Haney
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our next MAKER MAKER and make buttons with Sackville artist John Haney. For John\, the small\, poetic space of the button holds a world of possibility. It is a tiny canvas that becomes a public platform for political statements\, playful language\, found imagery and hand-drawn details. Whatever your approach\, buttons are art you can wear home. \nWe’ll have everything you need including collage materials\, a typewriter\, printer station and pens galore! If you have something special to encapsulate into a button\, bring it along! \nJohn Haney is a multidisciplinary artist who lives in an old farmhouse in Wood Point\, New Brunswick. He earned a BA from Mount Allison University in 2001\, and an MFA from the University of Guelph in 2016. He has exhibited in Canada\, the US\, and Germany. He was long-listed for the Sobey Award in 2011\, and was a nominee for the Scotiabank Photography Award in 2012. In 2019\, in order to make a home for art in the fields\, forests\, and shorelines that surround him\, he launched Wood Point Art Projects with the multi-artist presentation titled The Ark. \nMAKER MAKER is a monthly program of seriously small after-hours art workshops. Led by diverse Maker Mentors\, each workshop introduces a pocket-sized art project that can be made in two hours or less. Designed for accomplished and aspiring makers alike\, MAKER MAKER is for anyone interested in making small things by hand with friends and fellow makers. This informal workshop series explores how working small can be practical\, portable\, and playful\, economical\, sharable\, and even wearable. \nMAKER MAKER is free\, and all materials are provided; no registration required. \nFind detailed venue access information @ https://owensartgallery.com/visit/accessibility/

SUMMARY:J.E.A. Crake Concert – Echo Chamber performs “A World Transformed”
DESCRIPTION:Created and performed by the Toronto-based Echo Chamber ensemble\, “A World Transformed” is a reflection on the hate-crime murder of Matthew Shepard. Contemporary dance\, music (voices\, piano\, violin)\, and spoken word are used to explore this pivotal story through the lens of Matthew and his mother\, Judy Shepard\, who remains one of today’s leading voices fighting for 2SLGBTQ+ rights. The program expresses both deep grief and a hopeful belief in the power of individuals to bring about positive change in the world. \nThis performance is the 14th annual J.E.A. Crake Concert\, generously supported by the J.E.A Crake Foundation in partnership with the Mount Allison Performing Arts Series. \nTickets may be purchased at the door: $15 adults; $10 seniors and students; $30 family. Subscriptions also available. Free for current Mount Allison students with a valid ID card. For more information call 506-364-2374 or email music@mta.ca.
