SUMMARY:Wikipedia Art+Feminism Edit-a-thon
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we host our second annual Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon! We’ll be turning our lobby into Wikipedia central\, complete with computer workstations and a comfy zine zone where you can read zines about Wikipedia and encounter subjects and voices outside the mainstream. \nThis event is part of a global initiative to close information gaps related to gender\, feminism\, and the arts. The focus of our work will be on women\, LGBTQIA+\, and racialized artists who have exhibited at the Owens or whose work is in our permanent collection. \nEdits to Wikipedia make meaningful and immediate change\, helping to shape the world’s largest reference and one of the most-visited sites on the Internet. Anyone can write and edit articles in Wikipedia and there are many ways to participate in the Edit-a-thon\, from smaller actions like building bibliographies and adding category tags to help make articles more findable\, to bigger tasks\, such as expanding an article or even starting your own! \nWe will provide training and support for new Wikipedians. We’ll also have a list of suggested articles to work on and reference materials to get you started. You can bring your own laptop or use one of ours. \nWe welcome people of all gender identities and expressions. By attending this event you agree to uphold the Art+Feminism Safe\, Brave Space Policy. https://artandfeminism.org/resources/safety/safe-space-brave-space/ \nVenue Access\nThe stairs to the Owens from the entrance nearest the University Chapel have a handrail. There is also ramp access at this entrance\, however\, the ramp is steep. The stairs to the Owens entrance off York Street also have a handrail\, but there is no ramp. The main floor of the Owens is wheelchair accessible. Our second-floor gallery is not accessible. Two flights of stairs lead to the second floor. LED lights are used throughout the building. The Owens welcomes guide dogs and other service animals. \nBathrooms\nGendered bathrooms are located in the basement and are not wheelchair accessible. Two flights of stairs lead to the basement. \nParking\nThere are two\, reserved\, accessible parking spaces on the York Street side of the Gallery and one in the circular driveway adjacent to the Gallery. \nThe Owens is committed to making this event barrier-free. If you require ASL or other access accommodations\, please let us know. \nMasks are required at the Owens and in all buildings at Mount Allison University \nWe would like to acknowledge that the Owens Art Gallery\, Mount Allison University\, is located within the traditional territory of Mi’kma’ki\, the unceded ancestral homelands of the Mi’kmaq. Our relationship and our privilege to live on this territory was agreed upon in the Peace and Friendship Treaties of 1725 to 1752. Because of this treaty relationship\, it is to be acknowledged that we are all Treaty People and have a responsibility to respect this territory.
