SUMMARY:Sackville Sketching Walks with Kamaya Lindquist
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, 9 July\nMorning walk at 10:00 am\nAfternoon walk at 2:30 pm \nRegister at: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/sackville-sketching-walks-with-kamaya-lindquist-tickets-372257280547 \nJoin Sackville artist Kamaya Lindquist for a sketching walk that will take participants to three distinct locations on the Mount Allison campus. The walks are organized as part of summer programming for Colville House\, and they are inspired by the ways that Alex Colville drew from the world around him\, often incorporating recognizable Sackville locations into his paintings and prints. While these walks share an attention to place and the often-overlooked details of the everyday\, the focus will be on discovering your own surprising subjects within familiar surroundings. In Kamaya’s words\, “Turning something mundane into a drawing is actually quite exciting because it’s like rediscovering something that you would normally just dismiss. \nThe sketching walks are designed for adults\, including beginning drawers and those looking to reconnect with drawing. The morning walk is family-friendly\, and we welcome drawers ages eight and over along with an adult. Throughout the walk\, Kamaya will share her own perspective on drawing and offer techniques and guidance though an informal and supportive approach. \nEach walk will be approximately an hour and a half and will include three sketching stops. Walks will begin and end at Colville House. Every participant will receive a sketchbook and pencil to use during the program and keep as their sketching kit. \nThe walk will be approximately 1.2 km and includes grass\, gravel\, and sidewalks. Most of the walk is on level ground\, however\, one section includes a sloped hill for which an alternate path is possible. Please note any access or accommodations you might need in your registration form. Comfortable footwear is recommended\, and portable camping chairs will be provided for use while drawing. \nKamaya Lindquist is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans installation\, video\, sculpture\, and drawing. Her work explores language\, storytelling\, human-animal relationships and the domestic\, often employing humour. Observational drawing is a thread that runs through her practice. Kamaya has taught drawing to beginning drawers of all ages. She holds an MFA from Portland State University\, USA. \nThis program is free of cost and registration is limited. As this event takes place outdoors\, masks are optional\, however\, masks are required to visit Colville House and the Owens Art Gallery.
