Groundbreaking Marks Major Milestone for Emergency Services in Tantramar
TANTRAMAR, NB – The Municipality of Tantramar held an official groundbreaking ceremony this afternoon to mark the start of construction on the long-awaited Dorchester Fire Hall, a vital infrastructure investment that will enhance fire protection and emergency response capacity for the Dorchester region and surrounding communities.
Located at 3508 Cape Road, the new facility will provide Dorchester Fire with the space, tools, and modern infrastructure they need to continue protecting residents, homes, and businesses for decades to come.
“This is a proud day for Dorchester and for Tantramar as a whole,” said Mayor Andrew Black. “For many years, the need for a new fire hall in Dorchester has been clear. Today, we’re breaking ground on a building while also investing in safety and in the future resilience of our community.”
The project reflects years of planning and dedication by firefighters, municipal staff, and past and present Councils. The new fire hall will feature modern apparatus bays, training areas, improved storage for emergency gear, and accessible facilities for our courageous firefighters who respond day and night in service of their neighbours.
“This new hall is something we’ve needed for a long time, and we’re thrilled to see it finally coming to life,” said Dorchester Fire Chief Greg Partridge. “Our members put in countless hours to serve this community, and having a facility that supports that work—safely and efficiently—makes a huge difference.”
The current Dorchester Fire Hall has served the area since the mid 1940’s and plays a crucial role in the region’s emergency services network. The new facility will improve response times, provide safer operating conditions for firefighters, and support ongoing recruitment and training.
The Dorchester Fire Hall is one of several strategic infrastructure projects planned as part of Tantramar’s commitment to rural service delivery and climate-resilient municipal planning. Construction is expected to continue into 2026, with updates shared publicly as work progresses.
